As individuals, we turn towards political parties to identify with a group that has the most in common with our own values and principals. Each political party’s agenda focuses on the primary interests affiliated with that party and is motivated to enact its beliefs and interests through legislation by electing officials into government. Texas is a large state with four political parties: Republican, Democratic, Green Party, and Libertarian. Each political party has a basic fundamental ideology and platform on current issues. I also feel that this proposal conflicts with Republican ideology for less government interference in the daily lives of citizens. For a political party that is so focused on defending privacy and limited government involvement, this proposed legislative directive is very contradictory and hypocritical for what the Republican Party’s ideals stand for. They are in favor of review and revision of the Patriot Act, as well as â€Å"related executive and military orders and directives that erode constitutional rights and essential liberties of citizens.† (Republican Party of Texas) The Republicans are choosey as to which constitutional rights and liberties they recognize and protect. The remaining legislative priorities target education, immigration, and tax reform. If gas taxes continue to rise, drivers will undergo a hardship in transportation, especially in Austin because public transportation has not yet suc cessfully evolved to accommodate a city of its size efficiently. The romanticized version of the Civil War creates a picture of the North versus the South with the North imposing on the South. However, after reading â€Å"The Making of a Confederate† by William L. Barney, one can see that subdivisions existed before the war was declared. The documents analyzed by Barney primarily focus on the experiences of Walter Lenoir, a southern confederate and a member of the planter elite. His experiences tell a vivid story of a passionate and strongly opinioned participant of the Civil War as well as demonstrate a noticeably different view involving his reasoning when choosing a side. Abraham Lincoln describes this situation as a disagreement on the definition of liberty in his â€Å"Address at San itary Fair, Baltimore† (1864). Some southerners, like the Lenoirs, did not necessarily want to have slaves but didn’t really know how to accomplish anything without them on a plantation. Cravens World When you first walk into Cravens World Exhibit the walls and floor are painted white, very simplistic in order to avoid overwhelming the observer. The observers eye is automatically drawn to a circular shelving system, which holds many of the aesthetic artifacts. The center piece is transparent to provide the observer the opportunity to examine objects from every side and perspective. There are no distractions in the exhibit, other than the other marvelous artifacts mounted on the wall and in clear cases. Surrounding the main circle are artifacts in display windows from all around the world. There is close to no description as to what each artifact is on the main display, only an inventory number which the viewer then has†¦show more content†¦This goes to show that cultures aesthetics have not changed, and the tradition of beauty holds within each region around the world. When looking at the jewelry from Africa the designs between generations were almost the same and the necklaces are still considered beautiful worldwide. Since the artist insisted that the walls and floor be white and absolutely no distraction to onlookers, it required the observer â€Å"to look closely at the objects; their form, color, and other aesthetic details†(Cravens World,pg.27) This also meant that there wasn’t much written detail describing each item. For me that was troubling, because I was curious as to what exactly I was looking at and where it was coming from or how old it was. There was an inventory number for each item, but I had to then go over to the index book and look each item up and compare them from the books view. Looking the items up one by one wasn’t exactly challenging or difficult, it just distracted me from comparing the artifacts to each other the way the artist wanted me to. But maybe that is what the artist wanted?
